Dirtybird, a bona fide genre drifter and indecisive vinyl
addict, has been a relentless electronic music fan for the past 15
years. her journey to denver and then back to chicago in the late
90s marked the beginning of dirtybird's obsession with sharing a
unique blend of sounds that had soul, regardless of genre. denver's
newly thriving scene infected dirtybird, and by the time she moved
back to chicago she was consumed. it felt natural to buy some decks
and start creating her own music.
In 2003, dirtybird played exclusively at house parties for
luv-n-musik. it wasn't until she was invited to do a monthly gig at
the joint's "flirt" night at lava lounge that dirtybird got settled
into her own sound: a mix of minimal, electro, tech house, and
techno. it was also during this time that two of dirty's original
tracks were aired on Q101's sonic boom radio show. she also became
a favorite on djsourceradio, a UK based internet radio station that
featured unknown talent from all over the world.
The next 2 years were spent filling a hard drive with unfinished
tracks, djing at smaller loft parties in the city, and searching
for fellow lovers of new sounds with respect for the old. after
reuniting with fellow "flirt" survivor sassmouth in 2005, dirty was
invited to play at the naughty bad fun collective's "etikett" night
at betty's blue star lounge in chicago. feeling more inspired than
ever, she was exposed to a group of minimal/electro/techno
worshipping dancing machines dedicated to the music. since then,
dirtybird has lead techy revivals at etikett, and rocked rooms at
smartbar and zentra. recently dirtybird traveled to indianapolis
for venus envy 2.0, organized by dj shiva and thrown at therapy
nightclub. this night followed in the successful footsteps of the
first venus envy party, which featured detroit's punisher and
chicago's sassmouth tearing through a wicked tag set.
Aside from jacking with the nbfc, dirtybird is busy working on new
tracks for possible release on zuvuya and siteholder records.
